    2nd Feb 2005 [poetry](https://stevenjaycohen.com/tag:poetry#body-wrapper)

did i dream our kiss

in the low cool light of morning

scented with smoke from last night’s fire?

with so few words the taste of lips is more present than memory

so have i changed a memory of warm smiling eyes into something it never was?

no please don’t tell me

if memory and fantasy together bore the succulence that i remember as you better i savor my dream of your lips than never to have tasted them at all.
